We started in 2014 and have had 200+ walks together! We walk once a week at 9:00AM throughout the year.
Research demonstrates that group walks in nature are associated with significantly lower depression, less perceived stress, and enhanced overall mental health and well-being.
Now who doesn't want that??
In this group, I combine my passions: helping people improve mental health, the outdoors, and being with people. This is not group psychotherapy, but does have similar emotional benefits! We typically walk about three miles at various parks and trails in the Long Valley, NJ area, at about a 3mph pace.
This sign-up page is for you if you want to join us on the walks, but you cannot commit to weekly walks. Sign up for each, one at a time.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
You are responsible for knowing your own limits and being responsible for your own health. You should check with your doctor before participating in any physical activity. It is up to you to decide whether or not to participate on each walk/hike. By participating in the walk or hike, you are agreeing not to hold Peggy DeLong responsible for any injury or issue that you may experience. By participating, you are demonstrating that you understand that there are natural hazards, such as rocks and roots, as well as potential weather hazards. In addition, while we will follow COVID19 guidelines for outdoor activity, your participation acknowledges that you accept any risks involved related to COVID19, and you agree not to hold Peggy responsible.
Most of the walks will occur on the Columbia Trail from various starting points. If the Columbia Trail is too icy, we will walk on Turtleback Road. We will also have occasional walks/hikes at other locations, such as Schooley's Mountain Park, Teetertown Ravine, Patriot's Path, Cooper Grist Mill, Hacklebarney, and more.
Peggy reserves the right to cancel the walk in the event of inclement weather, or to change the location if needed. Email notifications will go out by 8:15AM in the event of cancellation. You are responsible for keeping your contact information, including email address, up to date with Peggy, and checking your email before heading out.
When the condition of the Columbia Trail is questionable (icy), we will meet at the designated location for that week at 9AM, and then make a determination whether or not to change the location by 9:10AM. That will be a decision made by those present, and there will be no email notification, as it is assumed that anyone coming will already be there by 9:10.
We will aim to leave each walk by 9:05. I will let you know in each email which direction we are walking in, so if you are running late, you can catch up. People often have appointments after the walk, so we need to be mindful of timing and leave by 9:05, and keep the walk to one hour. We will occasionally have walks/hikes that require a longer drive, and/or longer walk/hike. You will receive ample notification to plan accordingly.
Once you register, you will be added to the email distribution list for that walk. Email notifications of all walks will go out via ConvertKit.
By joining this group, you agree to abide by all COVID19 guidelines for how people may gather outside.
A refund will be given if the walk is canceled due to dangerous weather. The walks are rain or shine and will take place, unless the weather is dangerous.
No. For legal reasons, dogs are not permitted on the walks with this group.
